Sendik’s Food Market
The Balistreri family, who immigrated to Milwaukee from Sant’Elia, Sicily, started selling quality fruits and vegetables using a horse-drawn wagon on the city’s northeast side. The wagons eventually led to the establishment of produce markets on Oakland and Downer avenues.
